Angry Pincushion Anniversary

I can DIY?

On September 27 The Angry Pincushion turned two years old! I better look out for those terrible twos. It's hard for me to believe that two years ago, I sat down at my laptop and decided to start a crafty, DIYish, cute stuff, and recipes blog that for some reason is still around. When I started I thought it would be easy, I soon learned that "making it" in the internets world is very hard work, very time consuming, and not cheap, although I still manage to get by with photographing my subjects with a substandard digi camera, and an old Mac laptop(hoping to get a new one soon, fingers crossed!).

I hope you've enjoyed a little something on Angry Pincushion in these past two years, I know I have enjoyed creating all of it, especially Perry. I'm already looking forward to celebrating three years of Angry Pincushion :)

What's In A Name ?

Before I came up with the idea to start a blog, I already had the idea for the Angry Pincushion. He started as a doodle. I doodle a lot in my spare time. One day I decided to take my little drawing and make him a reality. And so, with a simple red tomato pincushion, some pins (of course), and a few more doodles, the Angry Pincushion was born! Cute little fellow isn't he! At the time I started my blog I wanted to make him not only the mascot but incorporate him in some of the posts, so far I have no stuck to that, but that is about to change. But first I feel it is time he receives a name.

Can you help me pick a good name for our little angry/cute friend? Feel free to leave a name idea of your own in the comments section, or send me a little message at sproutedwings@gmail.com if you are so inclined! I will be picking the name on January 31st.

Angriest Pincushion around...

Since I posted my little pincushion friend several weeks ago now, I have had several inquiries about his existence, and it has been brought into question whether I created it or not, and yes I did. The only thing I didn't create was the pincushion itself, that was bought at a fabric store. With my limited resources I photographed the cushion with a semi-crappy digital camera, and some special lighting (a really big flashlight) to get some better contrast without drowning the image out with my camera flash. Mr. Cushion's face came from my imagination onto a piece of paper where I then painstakingly cut it out using tiny manicure scissors, glued it on to the pincushion and then as an after thought I added the speech bubble above his head (taped to a pin). Throw in a couple of vintage wooden thread bobbins and I call it good, cute, brilliant...whatever.

Now as for the idea of the Angry Pincushion, I can't really pinpoint (haha, oh please) where it came from. Like most of my weird ideas they just pop into my head, which is why I always carry a pad of paper with me to write down ideas before I forget them. The original name I had chosen for my blog was taken, as I found out when I was signing up for Blogger, so I came up with this The Angry Pincushion, and I'm glad the first name I chose was taken, because this one is much better! The making of a mascot

I know that right now I probably have two readers, and one of them is my brother, but hopefully soon things will pick up...right? Anywho, regardless of my readership, I am proud to present this blog's mascot-the angry pincushion! Think about it, you'd be a little angry if people were sticking you with pins all the time... I know I would be. He doesn't have a name yet, I think Mr. Pincushion might suffice, for now anyway.
